I've been noticing a trend in the last couple of months. Apparently more than a dozen of my friends on DA have decided to leave or were forced to leave on account of something that has been rumored; the rumor claims that the people in charge of DeviantArt have apparently been using people's artwork and giving it away to websites such as Hot Topic and a couple of other famous art theft websites that I have no business mentioning (you can figure that out for yourselves). Here is an excerpt of proof from my friend P4perCake ---> Leaving DA

Did I agree to this when I signed up for an account here in December of 2010? Because if that's true, then I am literally being screwed out of my hours and hours of hard work in building my gallery on my profile over the last four years. Now, I cannot say for sure because I don't really know or want to know, but I also have some additional proof to display from senior DA member phoenixleo in this very philosophical entry that suggests something similar ---> dA is Not Selling Your Works to Third Party

So, given the review of these two entries (which I saw and skimmed through in their respective entireties) I have concluded that it is Hot Topic and the other suspected art theft websites that are stealing other people's artwork for their own gain, not DeviantArt. That being said, I must strongly suggest that you note me as soon as you see ANY of my artwork being promoted by this so-called Hot Topic website or a page on another such art theft website that may or may not be promoting my artwork for their financial gain and link me to the page of the infamous Hot Topic website in question before you send me the note. That way, it will be much easier for me to see the content that may or may not have been stolen from my DA gallery. It is imperative that I receive your cooperation and support as my fanbase of DA watchers and friends, because you never know what may happen if you end up becoming an innocent victim. Thank you for your time, and have a nice morning, afternoon or evening depending on where on Earth you live or reside. This is Kevin 'The Skull' Anderson reporting.
This is an urgent must-read. You need to read this all the way through in order to understand this disturbing trend that I've noticed over the last couple of months.

I think that the chances of other people from third party websites stealing work is far greater than DA endorsing it.

It didn't help that I think people got confused when WIX announced their purchase of DA that they mentioned something about creating a new stock library using DA for their WIX customers. So far, they haven't created such a feature and there was an outcry of people concerned that their work would be used without their permission. However, I believe that it was later clarified that creators would have to give permission for their work to be used this way.

Ultimately, I don't think it's worth it for DA to give away artworks to a third party, the backlash would be insane.
